Laser Hair Removal Unwanted hair affects just about everyone with common areas including the face, back, neck, legs, bikini line, chest and underarms. Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle and destroying the root. This treatment is highly effective but can only be used on hair with some level of pigment. Lasers will work on hair within the black and brown spectrum of color. Unfortunately, white, blond, and strawberry hair colors contain too little melanin (color) to be effectively treated. Electrolysis is the only option for these hair colors. Hummingbird Medi Spa uses IPL and Diode Laser hair removal technology because of the effectiveness, comfort level, speed and accuracy. Groups of hair follicles are treated in rapidly successive pulses.Indications for treatment:Excess or unwanted hairMost skin typesLight brown to black hairHair Removal Procedure:• Laser technology has been in use internationally for the last decade. • Laser hair removal is the most practical, most efficient, least expensive, least painful, and professional method of permanent hair removal. • A contact cooling system and supplemental cold air are used to prevent skin burns and assist in pain relief. • Each pulse treats an area about the size of a pink eraser.• The treatment is performed by our fully certified technicians under physician guidance. • The treatment feels like a warm, sharp rubber band snap. • Treatments are usually done in a series of six to twelve session, however it may require more or less depending on personal hair growth cycles.• The mild, normal after effects include: local redness and a “goose bump” appearance around the hair follicle. • In some areas, the hair may require up to four weeks to be fully expelled. Before Treatment:• There should be no UV exposure for four weeks before and after treatment. • Shave the hair in the area of treatment very carefully– at home, within 24 hours of the treatment. There will be a charge added if any area needs to be shaved during the treatment.• Sign the procedure consent form.After Treatment: • Treated area may look red, slightly puffy - redness fades within 24 hours. • It may feel like mild sunburn for a day or so; you can apply cool compresses. • You can return to normal activity after 24 hours. • There should be no sunlight until three weeks post treatment. Avoid hot tubs, saunas, hot showers and pools for 24 hours. Treat the area as if it were sunburned.• Use your Spa After-care products as recommended.

Radio Frequency Body Treatmentusing Accent by Alma LasersThis treatment is for skin tightening, fatty pocket reduction and cellulite improvement. The Accent is a radio frequency device, using both unipolar and bipolar radio frequency. It causes heating in the deep skin and the fatty tissue (up to 6 mm in the bipolar, and 4 cm in the unipolar modes). This type of treatment causes breakdown of fatty pockets/cellulite and also tightens the skin. Most individuals require a series of treatments to achieve optimal results. In this procedure, a smooth disc is stroked across the skin over the area of treatment. Gradually, the area builds up heat. The client experiences a warm sensation, and the technician continuously monitors the sensation, with efforts to keep it comfortable for all. Your skin temperature and appearance is closely monitored. After a treatment, the area feels quite warm for a short time, and then it returns to normal. You can dress and immediately resume your day. There are a few people who should not be treated with this device. Please let us know immediately if you have any of the following conditions or if any of these conditions arise during the course of your treatment: cancer – autoimmune disease/collagen disease; pacemaker or other implanted electrical device; pregnancy; ‘collagen’ (or other filler) injections in the area of treatment. There are a few risks with any treatment. The vast majority of individuals have no problems. Normal after effects include: some redness and mild tenderness of the skin (like a sunburn), mild swelling of the tissue, occasionally a few discrete tender areas which may persist for minutes to a few days. A less likely after effect is that the heat generated in the skin and fatty tissue could result in a small skin burn. A rare or unexpected risk would include a small dimpled scar.Pre treatment • Wear comfortable clothing. • Take off all your metal jewellery. • Review the consent form or your previous treatment results with the staff. • Photograph the area for treatment • Lie comfortably on the bed. Post treatment • Wipe away excess oil off skin. • Get dressed. • Book your next session. • Call the spa if you have any concerns.

Radio Frquency Face Radio Frequency Face Treatmentsusing Accent by Alma LasersAccent Radio frequency skin tightening is a novel non-surgical approach to tightening skin and some of the deeper skin structures. Accent Radio frequency uses energy to create a field of deep dermal heating. The heat is of a therapeutic nature, which causes both immediate and delayed collagen improvements. The immediate improvements are a result of existing collagen contraction. The delayed improvements are due to the induction of new collagen formation.This process is considered a non-downtime procedure. There is generally no injury to the skin's surface. It is normal to see some redness and mild swelling for a day or two after this procedure. This treatment is usually done once to twice, the treatments separated by one to two months. Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive "mechanical" exfoliation treatment that removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells on the face, chest, or neck. It’s an in-office procedure that is done by a trained skin care professional that uses a diamond tip or corundum crystals along with vacuum suction to sweep away the dead skin and helps with circulation.When the skin’s surface is disrupted, cell division occurs which stimulates fibroblast activity leading to collagen production. This in turn leads to thicker, firmer younger looking skin. The suctioning and vacuuming stimulates blood flow bringing up oxygen and nutrients to the skin's surface, helping to nourish the dermis. Our skin sloughs off at a slower rate with age, so the exfoliation of several layers of the stratum corneum leaves skin fresh and radiant.Microdermabrasion treatments are recommended every 3-4 weeks in a series of 6 for correction and every 6–8 weeks for maintenance or prevention. To finish the treatment, a nourishing vitamin based moisturizer and sunscreen is applied and you are provided with home care recommendations. Before Microdermabrasion:Refrain from waxing, electrolysis and depilatories for four days before and after your treatments.• Discontinue Accutane usage six months prior to, and during, the treatment period.• Discontinue retinol and AHA usage two days prior to and two days after each treatment. Wait one week after filler injections. • Do not wear makeup or contact lenses to the treatment. • Skin should be free of cold sores in the lip area.* After Medical Microdermabrasion:• You may experience some stinging, redness, irritation. • It is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness and dryness of the skin. • Do not touch or peel the flaking skin - add moisturizer. • Avoid frequent face washing with water as it can dry the skin. • You may want to wait one day to apply makeup. • Do not use glycolic, Retin A, exfoliants or astringents for two days after the treatment. • Avoid extreme heat for two days (direct sun, sauna, hot tubs, Jacuzzi, tanning beds) • If drugs for herpes (cold sores) were prescribed, they should be continued until the prescription is complete. • Immediate return to normal activities. • Begin a regular program of sunscreens and sun protection. Avoid sun exposure for one week after having a microdermabrasion. * If you are prone to herpes (cold sores), ask us for a prescription. You will need to treat these cold sores for 24-48 hours prior to treatment and 24-48 following treatment.

PRFX Rejuvination Peel A mild chemical peel is a non-invasive treatment for restoring wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented, or sun-damaged facial skin. Chemical peels can be used on any area of the body, with the most common areas being the face, back and chest. A chemical solution is used to gently loosen the skin's damaged outer layers so that they may exfoliate naturally. Fresh, new skin is revealed underneath and collagen is stimulated during the healing process to produce a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin surface. A peel does not eliminate sagging or excess skin. The procedure takes approximately 40 minutes, mild redness and tingling will develop, lasting up to a few hours. Light peeling will begin within two to five days, and it is very important not to pick at any loose skin but to allow it to gently come off on its own. It is very important to protect this new skin with daily sunscreen application. Peels are generally administered every two to three weeks, in a series of six treatments.

Light therapy for acne is considered "cosmetic" and is therefore not covered by insurance. • Blue Light therapy is often performed in conjunction with other acne treatments such as chemical peels and IPL treatments. As Blue light therapy does not irritate the skin in any way it is usually performed post more aggressive treatments during the same visit. Most people need eight to twelve treatments to put their acne into a state of remission. This timing is an approximation, as every person is unique. The Blue Light Acne Treatments involve cleansing the skin to remove any makeup. Then a clear gel is applied to help the light penetrate the pimples. A tube, held by the technician, blows soothing cooled air across the skin’s surface. The light is then pulsed over the acne area, and the sensation is of gentle warmth, or a mild pin-prick at its strongest levels. After the treatment, the skin is wiped dry and sunscreen is applied. Tattoo Removal

The technology used is called YAG laser with a Q-switch. It targets the ink of the tattoo, causing it to shatter in to tiny particles which are safely absorbed and eliminated by the circulatory system. The tattoo will fade gradually over the course of treatments, which are spaced 6-8 weeks apart, and there is little to no downtime involved.

Laser predominantly targets blood vessels by delivering sufficient energy to thermo coagulate vessels without causing damage to the surrounding skin. The damaged vessels are absorbed by the body and little or no trace of the initial lesion remains.
