  Chemical Peels

A mild chemical peel is a non-invasive technique for restoring wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented, or sun-damaged facial skin. Chemical peels can be used on any area of the body, the most common areas being the face, back and chest. A chemical solution is used to peel away the skin's damaged outer layers. The new cells and collagen are stimulated during the healing process to produce a smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin surface. A peel does not eliminate sagging or excess skin. Each treatment is customized for patient skin type, specific problem areas and the delicate areas of the face. The depth of the peel is dependent on the concentration and type of acid, the duration of contact, and a person's skin type and sensitivity. The treatment issues will be discussed during your consultation.

  Indications for treatment:

• Facial blemishes
• Uneven skin pigmentation
• Soften acne facial scars
• Control acne
• Dull, flat, "tired-looking" skin
• Brown spots and age spots
• Discoloration from acne
• Sun damaged skin
• Rough, dry skin

  Chemical Peel:

 • Most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons -- to enhance your appearance and your self confidence
• The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes
• A minimal amount of redness and tingling develops, which ends within one hour.
• Within two to five days, a light peeling is faintly visible and lasts about five days.
• A series of six peels is suggested, administered at two week intervals.
• If you have a history of herpes, you should inform your technician prior to the procedure.

  Before, During and After Protocol

  Before Chemical Peel:

• Sign the Chemical Peel Consent Form.
• Alert the technician about any medical or skin conditions such as Herpes, Accutane use, recent peel or other facial procedures.
• No make-up or contact lenses should be worn to the Spa.
• No anesthesia is needed for AHA peels.

  During Chemical Peel:

 • The skin is cleansed thoroughly to remove all oil and debris.
• The peeling agent is applied evenly to the skin surface.
• The agent is rapidly neutralized after several minutes with another solution.
• A Spa Recovery Cream is applied.

  After Chemical Peel:

• You may experience some stinging, redness, irritation and crusting.
• It is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness and dryness of the skin.
• Do not touch or peel the flaking skin - add moisturizer.
• Frequent face washing with water is discouraged because it dries out the skin.
• If drugs for Herpes were prescribed, they should be continued for one week.
• Return to normal activities
• Use the Spa After-care products as instructed to keep the skin clean and moist.
• Begin a regular program of sunscreens and sun protection. Avoid sun exposure for one month following the series of peels.
